Think you have what it takes? Then we might want you.
Vovoid is intended to be a really cool group of people who love what they do. Every project we do is totally kickass. If it's not fun - we don't do it.
We take extremely good care of our personnell - we take care of each other. All the small things that count. All the cool accessories.
Being part of Vovoid is more than work - it's kind of a lifestyle. You're an independent artist in a group of artists. If you don't have it in you already
there's no chance that you will like it.
Sadly we do not often look for co-artists. However, if you feel like you could
fit in and are either a programmer or an artist we'd be pleased to hear from you - perhaps
we can't resist you..! ;)
If you like - pick a random staff member and they will answer any questions you have.
See the staff page to get in touch with us.
Also check behind the scenes for extra info that will make you comfortable.
Remember that the important thing for us is not what kind of degree you've got or how cool the school you attended says you are - it's
what you create that matters. We know of more than enough examples of people with the highest grades and long educations
that plain SUCK at most everything when it comes to art and computers. By the way, female hax0rs are cool.
The following is a loosely compiled list of stuff we'd like to see from you. Some requirements are phoney or irrelevant! Can you spot them?
Basic/Social skills required of all our employees:
- You have to like what you do
- Craftsmanship is more important than "business" - if you do your job well you end up getting well paid in the end, this doesn't mean that we're unfair in our salaries - we try not to value someone according to how well they can negociate a salary, we rather split money amongst us in respect to what work has been done on a specific project.
- You have to be creative
- You should know how to handle customers directly
- You can cope with and appreciate listening to most styles of music
- You should be enjoying playing games/videogames
- You have a broad approach to life itself
- You need the experience to understand how art & technology can be combined
- You should be 20-65 years old and not be afraid of living in Sweden (do not fear THE MOOSE).
- You have to know HTML and preferrably understand what XML is about
- You are a hacker and view the world around you as hackers do. If you don't know what we mean with this, tough luck - you're a loser. Go away..
- For your own good - don't hate travelling - you might be subjected to traversing the planet a few times
- If you beleive Microsoft's or any other company/organization's advertising for truth, consider yourself a total newbie. Next stop: www.google.com, search for "101 ways to commit suicide". ;) ..you have no idea what a world of wonderful opportunities will open up for you! ..or maybe, as a second, I guess for you painful, option - start using your brain.
- If you spent 3 years or more of your life studying physics or humaniora for instance - subjects that have nothing or little to do with computers - we take it as a bad sign that you can't be commited to what you will be doing. The world of computers moves too fast for such studies to take away precious time. This sounds very harshe we know, but it's the grim reality. Unfortunately. Note that this depends greatly on you as a person. If you feel this is crap in your case - please tell us we're wrong!
What we require of our "software architects":
- If you're still programming visual basic/ASP extensively and think that makes you cool you can stop reading here - you need more experience than that - you won't even understand what we're doing.
- 10 years of computer experience minimum
- You have to have started with computers at age 10-14
- At least 6 years experience in programming (preferrably 8+)
- You have to know 5 or more of these programming languages:
- C++
- Object Pascal (As provided in Delphi+Kylix)
- Java
- PHP
- Perl
- Perl-LFH
- Python
- Shell Script (bourne/csh/ksh/jsh)
- You need experience with Database servers and SQL. Preferrably some of the scalable multiplatform database engines such as mysql & postgresql. Note that there is a huge difference between knowing the SQL language and creating efficient data architectures. 90% of all the people out there who supposedly "know SQL" seem to know nothing about how things should be done. Do you? Think before you type.
- You have to know how to comment your code
- Maths - funcs, multiple variable analysis, derivae, linear algebra are REQUIRED.
- Basic knowledge in web application development and the structure of HTML pages (PHP)
- Reference project(s) that have made you stand out in public and which has been exposed to more than 200 000 people (you must have been alone on such a project)
- Knowledge in Photoshop/GiMP/etc is a must
- Knowledge in Maya or Blender is a plus
- Skills in 3d programming is a plus, especially if you've experience from the old days when 3d accelerators was not available - if you don't see the benefits from this - it generally means that such a person understands modern technologies far better than people without this background.
- If you've previously been involved in the 'scene' we value you higher than someone who hasn't. If you don't even know what it is - get lost right now.
- Knowledge about computer hardware and internals in general - you have to know how to build and repair your own boxen. Why is it good to have a low freq FSB? Answer: It's not.
- Basic knowledge in internet and physical security - don't throw secret stuff in the trash bin please!
- Basic understanding of data management algorithms such as Red & Black Balanced Trees (just an example). what is best? radix or bubble sorting? You should know this and what it can be used for.
We require of our artists (we only take in artists on commission basis, no in-house artists):

- Fashion/Clothing design is a plus but not required
- Oil painting is a plus but not required
